“We are building a new reality which respects people and the environment”
For 60 years, Stosa has been creating high-quality kitchens that are globally recognised and celebrated for their innovation and design. Today, in addition to the product, the company has chosen to demonstrate its focus on the environment and on people in a tangible manner, by publishing its first Sustainability Report.
This report expresses the commitment of Stosa Cucine and of its founders, the Sani family, to ensuring that they stand on the front line alongside the company’s employees who work passionately every day in the factories, and alongside the community, the region and the environment, which – now more than ever – requires virtuous actions and unwavering dedication from every individual in order to safeguard it.
Sustainability Report
The report is drafted in accordance with the GRI methodology, which boasts the most accreditations at global level: this is designed to measure and analyse the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) impacts of companies through more than 100 indicators, and establishes the three-year targets for improvement that Stosa must commit to:
– product reliability and quality, as well as customer satisfaction
– talent development and training: working and focusing on young students and investing in employees through a process of continuous training
– communication of values connected to sustainability
– innovation and development with a view to coming up with and implementing new ways of working and new work spaces
– support for the local area, in order to establish a solid, increasingly broad relationship with the community
Environment
Stosa has been focused on environmental issues for many years, as demonstrated by the targeted choices made by the company, as part of its dedication to pursuing a sustainable philosophy. These include:
– the installation of a 1.5 MW photovoltaic plant which meets more than 61% of the current electricity requirements of the company.
– reduction in energy costs and polluting emissions: Stosa has slashed the amount of energy required to build a kitchen by 9%, and the CO2 emissions by 22% compared to 2019.
– 80% of the materials used, including the wood, MDF and chipboard, come from sustainable sources
– 98% of the product packaging is made from cardboard,reducing plastic use
– In 2023, a total of 3,097 tonnes of waste was produced – of which 0% hazardous and 100% non hazardous – a reduction of 3% compared to 2022
– The company has been awarded FSC certification and COSMOB product circularity certification for more than 12 years.
– Consolidated partnerships with companies who share the same sustainability principles.
– Furniture Pact, an agreement signed by Stosa which unites companies in the Italian furniture supply chain with the shared goal of promoting sustainability and pursuing tangible commitments designed to reduce the impact of the industry on people and the environment.
– Creation of the Stosa Green Park, a Smart Factory 4.0 which will span a reclaimed area of 150,000 square metres overall, conceived and built with a focus on sustainable development, courtesy of the presence of an additional photovoltaic plant.
– Creation of a river park, with a view to enhancing the working environment and making it a healthy, pleasant place.
– Sustainable mobility incentives, with the installation of charging stations for electric cars for the use of employees, as well as for charging the company’s full-electric vehicles.
Social responsibility
The report demonstrates the company’s deep focus on social issues and aspects relating to the health of people, to sports and to corporate welfare, which have enabled Stosa to obtain WHP (Workspace Health Promotion) certification – a World Health Organisation programme designed to promote health through healthy lifestyles at work.
Company welfare
The company embraces and is dedicated to respecting the four key ILO (International Labour Organisation) standards:
freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining;
elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour;
effective abolition of child labour;
elimination of all forms of discrimination in work and employment.
Stosa also provides its employees with access to a nutritionist who can create personalised nutrition plans based on dietary requirements, intolerances or particular stages in life, such as pregnancy. The free in-house canteen service saves each employee around €1,355 per year, and provides various financial bonuses as a sign of the recognition throughout the year.
The “Altea PLUS” Supplementary Health Fund can be accessed by all employees, providing them with a more affordable way to manage medical expenses, and through an agreement with the Tuscany Region and the local health authorities, Stosa also participates in a series of health promotion initiatives.
The company has also invested in courses, programmes to develop the technical and specialist skills of employees and training initiatives, such as the Stosa Job Academy, aimed at young people under the age of 35 who are in search of work.
Welfare in the community
Stosa supports the community and surrounding area through a series of sponsorships and donations: in 2023 alone, more than 21 local organisations were supported with a total of €150,000, including schools, sporting associations and charities such as the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation. As of 2021, the kitchens fitted in the Foundation’s shelter homes have been donated by Stosa free of charge.
In addition, a management system for social activities has been introduced, with a view to analysing social sustainability projects and ensuring that these are only implemented with reliable partners who share Stosa’s goals and values, and are aware of the needs of the community.
Governance
The financial statements bear witness to Stosa’s focus on growth and investment: more than 92% of the economic value generated by the company is redistributed to employees and suppliers, to cover operating, tax and financial costs, and to the local community.
This economic growth has led to a major increase in the company’s workforce, with 16 new employees taken on since the beginning of 2023, with this number expected to grow by a further 60 by 2025, compared to 2019.
Stosa Green
Sustainable production – with a focus on the environment, ethics and transparency – has always guided Stosa’s approach to work.
The company fosters a corporate culture centred on concrete strategies aimed at making production increasingly sustainable and respecting environmental resources and people, with a view to providing certified products with a minimal impact on the natural ecosystem Ethics, transparency and sustainability are at the heart of every stage of Stosa’s work, and represent a core component of the corporate culture.
As part of its unwavering focus on the future, Stosa has implemented a number of important strategies linked to the environmental sustainability of every activity and process: from increasing its investments in energy efficiency to slashing waste production, choosing environmentally-friendly materials and using wood from responsibly managed forests, making it possible to trace it in accordance with strict standards.
